the new sustainable economy
Now, in present day, the South has a large and thriving economy. Slave-less and all, they managed to become more successful than they were before the Civil War. This new economy does not rely on owning humans as objects, yet it is still largely based on cash crops as it was before the Civil War. The fact that their economy still relies on the same products just shows yet again why it is better for slavery to have been ended by Lincoln. The South is now able to thrive with the same products it used to have by using new innovations and the South now has racial equality which, as discussed earlier, further benefits the South. Free labor is not worth what the South has gained from ending slavery.
