was ending slavery beneficial to the south?
The South certainly did not like the idea of ending slavery and at the time, it appeared as though slavery's abolishment would collapse the South's economy. However, did these issues cause the south to create a more sustainable economy and aid in creating a better culture for all races which, in turn, has helped the South more than being able to own slaves?
the answer
While slavery's end significantly hurt the Southern economy, the gain in both racial equality and economic stability far outweighed the initial economic issues.
